Al Gomez - Catchin' A Vibe

What is it about guitar players who hail from the Lone Star state of Texas?  Stevie Ray Vaughn, Buddy Holly and Roy Orbison are just a few that exude that Texan talent. Tex-Mex or Tejano music comes to mind with its combination of folk, pop, r&b and latin music.  Hailing from Pecos, Texas close to the Mexican border, guitarist Al Gomez released his 5 song EP Catchin' A Vibe last year, a followup to his full length album Casa Groove a year earlier and his Christmas album Hark! The Herald Angels Sing.  Al brings to the table a real good smooth groove with his Benson and Ritenour sounding guitar.  Big and punchy but with a well rounded tempo that pulsates with some chic bass and superb drumming and that's just on the opening title track!  'Right Place, Wrong Time' is next with its grooveathon of catchy rhythms and all around good energy.

Besides his solo smooth jazz career, Al has shared the stage over the years with Aaron Neville, Selena, Willie Nelson, Carlos Santana and West Texas musicians. With his versatile approach to music comes a blend of jazz, country, blues, r&b and funk influence perhaps like the fusion of a Tex-Mex menu.  'Shine On' spotlights all the band members on bass, drums and keyboards.  A very uplifting song with its cruise along vitality.  Finally found the sweet drive you always wanted?  Put this song on for a drive you won't forget.  Be sure to catch Al Gomez's vibe and you'll be a fan forever...like yours truly.
