Crack Of Dawn - Spotlight

Posted by April Galenzoski on 2018/01/29

Back in the day the boys were met with instant success. Singles like “It's Alright (This Feeling)”, “Keep The Faith” and “The Key” were monster hits in Canada. The lads even outsold funk giants Earth, Wind and Fire, both in record sales and concert tickets. Wow again.

Now in 2018, Crack Of Dawn is still that band. With founding members Alvin, Rupert and Carl (on sax, guitar and drums), and with the addition of vocalist Michael Dunston (a Canadian wave fave for years), Crack Of Dawn is back with a tasty new collection of R&B gems, all played with a funky finesse born from years of experience. From the lead-off single "Your Love" (romantic soul at its finest) to "Crack Of Dawn" (wake up every morning with this kicker!) to the re-recorded versions of "It's Alright" and "Keep The Faith", these guys get their groove on, gray hairs and all. My favourite track - the re-recorded version of "Booby Ruby" - just try not dancing to this funkalicious feast.
Like a fine wine Crack Of Dawn has only improved with age. Older, wiser, every bit as talented and ready to get you on the floor shaking your groove thang, Canada's R&B pioneers are hotter than ever. Go ahead - rise and shine with Crack Of Dawn's Spotlight, a beautiful blend of past and present, perfect for 2018.
Just wow.

Ready for a brief history lesson? Crack Of Dawn may be new to airplay on The Wave but these guys are the true definition of old school with a history going back to their self-titled debut album which was released in 1976. Yes - 42 years ago. Wow.
