Eric Darius - Breakin’ Thru

Posted by April Galenzoski on 2018/10/09

When you grow up in a musical family consisting of a Jamaican mother who sings and plays piano and a Haitian father who plays bass, not only do you inherit talent, but you inherit good looks! Saxophonist Eric Darius is the whole package. His smooth vibes blend with pop-laden melodies on this his 7th album on his own SagiDarius Music label. High energy feel-good tracks come with ease when working with co-producers, Rodney Jones Jr. (Mary J. Blige) and Butta N’ Bizkit (John Legend, Ledisi)  Songs like 'Fired Up', 'Believe Me' and 'Forever Always' with singer MAJOR just cruise along with Eric’s masterful sax licks . Vocalist Ollie Gabriel brings some James Brown-influenced soul on the punchy tune, 'Work', that incorporates Darius’s sax with funky bass, drums and even traces of Bruno Mars on this remarkable dance track. Things really cool off and mellow out with Brian Culbertson (Eric toured with him for two years) on L.O.V.E. It’s reminiscent of the 1987 hit,  'At This Moment' by Billy Vera and the Beaters- slow and romantic with incredible saxmanship by Darius and his band. Worth every moment. Things kick back into gear with dynamic compositions like ‘Flipping The Script’, ‘Trazz’ and the title track. Darius has really grown with us over the years since he started out at the age of 17. He’s developed into an entrepreneur, school music advocate and a fine musician to boot.
