Nils - Play

Posted by April Galenzoski on 2018/03/27

Sophisticated soul. That's the best way to describe guitarist/producer/songwriter Nils' sound. It's been 13 years since Nils first came on to the scene with his hit, 'Pacific Coast Highway', a breezy cool cut that transported  us to the famous ocean-side strip with its twists and turns.

Listening to Play, his eighth album, made for a smooth ride  while driving home from Markham after the Wave's Tower Of Power  concert. The 2015 Babyface song, 'We Got Love', grooves along true to the original, the single 'Straight Down The Line' features great players like drummer Tony Moore and keyboardist Philippe Saisse, and 'California' has Steve Cole laying down a sweet sax solo. Even drummer Simon Phillips (Toto, The Who) with his distinguishable style of playing is featured on the outstanding atmospheric track, 'Fire Of My Heart'.

Nils' way of playing hasn't really changed over the years. His Clapton-like chops blend well with his Niles Rodgers/Chic style of 70's "grooveness". If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Here's to another 8 Nils' masterpieces!
