The Oberhamer Brothers - Together Again

Posted by April Galenzoski on 2017/07/03

They say that blood is thicker than water and it may well be true but blood is also beautifully harmonious, as evidenced here by the pairing of the two Oberhamers brothers - Brandon and Doug. Much like the countless singing siblings who have made musical magic over the years, these two Alberta-born instrumentalists are proving with this new release that the very same alchemy works with smooth instrumental groove. Together Again is a delectable debut showcasing two powerhouse solo talents melding into mellifluous magic.

"Morning Mist" leads the way with Brandon's smooth and sultry sax, complimented by Doug's spunky yet silky horn. "Your Love" picks up the tempo, all funky, frisky fun. "Undercurrent" brings on the boogie, "Let Me Make It Up To You" breaks my heart with its unruffled simplicity and the album's sole cover, Gloria Estefan's "Here We Are", is a welcome addition to the set - effortlessly luscious and lush.

Newcomers to the world of contemporary jazz, saxophonist Brandon is a big band leader, instructor and freelancer in Calgary, Alberta. For the last ten years he has been the Jazz Director at St. Francis High School and the Director of the Calgary Summer Jazz Camps.

Brother Doug is a multi-instrumentalist Musical Director on Broadway in New York City. He brings Flugelhorn, piano, guitar and drums/keys tracking to the mix.

With Together Again The Oberhamers Brothers have proven that 'together more often" is a decidedly great idea. I am very much looking forward to 'together next time" and much more marvelous music from these sensational siblings.
