"Life and Times"

It will be two years ago this July that we lost iconic guitarist, Chuck Loeb. He was the true essence of bands like Fourplay and Steps Ahead with Randy Brecker.

He played with Stan Getz.  Along with keyboardist, Jeff Lorber, and saxophonist, Everette Harp, he recorded two albums with the supergroup, Jazz Funk Soul. The remaining members knew in their hearts they had to celebrate the memory of Chuck and continue his legacy with the third instalment of JFS, entitled Life And Times. Their newest member, guitarist Paul Jackson Jr., Jeff calls one of the “finest rhythm guitarists on the planet”.  In a recent Jazziz Magazine interview, Jeff describes Chuck as more of a "jazzer" who would lay something out in rehearsals and studio sessions, allowing Lorber to take over the rhythms with his funkalicious keyboard riffs. But now the dynamics have changed, with Jackson Jr. steering the band towards a fun, high energy soul element that speaks to its listeners.  It's a tight, no-nonsense music group!  Songs like ‘Windfall’ and ‘Exotic’ provide a nice funk bass and drums, with Lenny Pickett on saxophone. (reminiscent of the Saturday Night Live band). ‘Room W Vu’ is steady and flowing with its George Duke music mannerisms while ‘Walkin’ With You’ showcases a band that really knows how to capture the smooth groove we all know and love. Funky rhythms for life!
