Fire and Desire
He recorded his debut album 11 years ago (2010). He was named Billboard's Smooth Jazz Artist of the Year in 2012. He has earned six #1 hits on the Billboard charts and nineteen songs in the top ten. And on this new album, Vincent plays every single instrument. Every. Single. Instrument.
The boy is 28 years old.
Wow.
"On The Move" kicks off the album with that stirring sax sound specific to Vincent's self-professed "old soul". It's retro yet fresh, old-school yet hip. "Disco Sax" (the only non-original on the record) pays homage to Houston Pearson's dance hit. From the opening lick I kept expecting Donna Summer to pop in and sing. Talk about a throwback! "Ridin' the Wave" must have been written for us, right? "Turkey Strut" (what a title!) goes a little bit electronica and the title track, "Fire and Desire," wraps up the album with a solid, chunky groove.
Vincent was just 4 years old when his parents bought him a drum kit. He then took up guitar and finally the saxophone. His father was a disc jockey (yay!) so the young lad was introduced to many genres of music at an early age. This brilliant musical education is evident on every note he writes and plays. And not only does he play every instrument, he showcased his vocal abilities too on his 2016 album called "Christmas." I just checked it out guess what? The boy can sing!
Who knows what is next for this Wunderkind? My guess is "Fire and Desire" will garner more number ones and more top ten hits and hopefully we'll be hearing more vocals on future recordings. Bring it on Vincent! We desire more of your fire!
